A LOT TO BE GRATEFUL FOR

It might not seem like it, but there’s been a lot going on at Purdon Groves. Rainy weather has slowed down the progress of the road that is critical to many of our planned activities and events. And Houston’s knee surgery has prevented him from completing several planned projects. Still, in the midst of everything, a lot of progress has been made.

We continue to meet new people and build relationships with people who have encouraged us in our vision. Just last week I met a woman who is interested in giving her husband the gift of a silent retreat in our Retreat Experience sometime in 2019. 

We’ve also met a couple of Dallas chefs - Chad at Cafe Momentum and Suki at Mudhen Meat and Greens - who have bought pumpkin blossoms from us. Who knew that squash blossoms and pumpkin blossoms were a delicacy, coveted by chefs? We also sold a few pounds of okra to a local mom who is an inventive cook, canning and making delicious and nutritious meals to share with her young son.  

We connected with the Dallas Farmer’s Market (DFM) and plan to have a stall in the Shed very soon (stay tuned!). We’ve been so grateful for the encouragement from DFM Manager, Beth, and her desire to help us be successful in this new venture. It might be her job, but she goes about it in such a refreshing and fun way!

The road - WOW. We had no idea it would take so long to complete the road. We love our contractor. It’s not his fault that we’ve had record  rainfall in Purdon, Texas. Just as he completed grading for the road, it began to rain...and rain...and rain. The temperatures also dropped. With so much flooding, he’s had to wait for the ground to dry out in order to finish the drainage system, complete the road and create the new pond. 

It’s easy to become discouraged when things don’t go as planned, but we’re learning that every  delay, every conversation and every experience helps direct us to where we need to be - to areas that need our focus. And for that, we’re grateful.
